CHS FTP is a File Transfer Protocol emulation facility over HTTP, allowing for the storage of any type of data file on a remote Web Server where it is available for collection at any time by an authorised user. Files are transferred to the CHS Secure Access Facility using FTP through a web browser window such as Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. Files are then available for colleagues, clients and suppliers to either view or download, provided they are authorised to do so.
Access Levels
The CHS Secure Access Facility Administrator will determine the level of access that each user has. To gain access to the facility you must first obtain a User ID and Password by requesting access. Each individual user is required to have their own User ID and Password as all activity is logged.
There are three levels of access available to users
| Level Two | Allows access to ALL folders within the FTP site with capacity to download and upload files, as well as create new folders. |
| Level Three | Allows access to DEFINED folders within the FTP site with capacity to download and upload files. |
| Level Four | Allows access to DEFINED folders within the FTP site with capacity to download a file from those specified folders. |
Obtaining Access
To obtain access for a new user at either Level Two, Level Three or Level Four, the Administrator is required to create a User ID and Password. To request a User ID and Password from the Administrator please complete the New User Application, Your request will be dealt with promptly. When access has been established the Administrator will reply to the email address that you have specified. Please keep your access User ID and Password CONFIDENTIAL. Activity in the facility is logged by the Administrator, and any unauthorised or improper use will result in access being removed without notice.
Why FTP and not email?
FTP or File Transfer Protocol is the preferred method of transferring files as it makes the data available for an authorised user to view the files that are within their defined access area. This is a better option to email as the user can nominate what they access, and when they access it. If a file is transferred by email, the user does not have the option of collecting the file or files at a time that is convenient to them. The inflexibility of sending files by email means tying up internet connections for lengthy periods of time. This problem is overcome with the FTP facility provided by the CHS Secure Access Facility web server.
If you are a Level Two user, the most effective way to use this facility is to upload the file or files into the appropriate directory and then advise other users who may need to access or use those files of their availability by sending a text email message. Other users will then be able to access the appropriate files at a time that is appropriate and convenient.

Any breach of this condition will result in either a reduction of the level of access available to the user, or removal of the users access completely.
